The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games

With the "death" of the Twilight Saga a new era was born, this new era was that of... *dramatically hits imaginary drum roll button

The Hunger Games (Book 1): Suzanne Collins: 9780439023528 ...

In book one of three in this captivating series you are dropped into the life of 16 year old Katniss Everdeen, the kick butt protagonist whose as dangerous with a bow and arrow as any male character I've ever read about. This female Robin Hood lives in the starving 12th district of Panem, the only country in what was once known as North America. 74 years prior the nation of Panem was at war with itself. United the 13 districts fought against their father the Capitol in the attempt to free themselves of the bondage he had them in. 12 districts lost and the 13th was destroyed, so as punishment for their rebellion the Capitol did what any post apocalyptic, insane government would(extreme sarcasm used)... forced each of the remaining 12 districts to each offer up one teenage girl and one teenage boy up each year to fight to the death in their high tech arenas for the sick entertainment of the Capitols worshiping residents. This living hell became known as The Hunger Games. I read this book three years ago and again last week and am still in love with it and it's characters. Collins draws you in with every word and will leave you gasping for air at every heart stopping twist and turn this story throws at you. Of course there are those people who hate the book and the movie adaptation because of it's violence, but I am a sucker for the balance of romance, violence, sorrow, pain, and joy Collins presents in every chapter. For squeamish readers I'd say avoid this book or read with your best friend. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone under 12 because of the gore, but nothing sexual except a few kisses happen.

Genre: Science Fiction
Recommended Age: 12
